The Tail of the Donkee

lazee_donkee_001This is me. My name is Dan and I’m a technical writer. And, yes, I get “Technical writer? What does that do?” a lot. Well… look inside the box that your cellphone came in. It has a user manual. That’s an example of what a technical writer… uhhh… writes. We’re mostly associated with electronics and software. Furnitures don’t really need user manuals, right? Unless you’re a total idiot. (“Morons’ Guide on How Sit on a Sofa.” Say what?)

After a crashing day at the office - logging in, checking emails, logging onto G4TV, Gamespot, GameFAQs, and Ultimate-Guitar, etc. - it’s time to unwind on my trusty couch, heat up my Playstation 3, and play some sick games til my fingers get numb. Yeah, I’m a hardcore video gamer and I’ve always been for the past seven years. I’ve tried everything from sports, MMORPG, RPG, fighting, hack and slash, stealth, blah blah blah, yadda yadda yadda. Hey, it’s fun blowing stuff up, slashing throats, or just climbing up building and dropping down ten stories to the streets.

My mornings are a little bit different. This time of the day is the time where I get the chance to grab my guitar and mash up some sick notes. I have a Les Paul-style electric guitar in natural Carolina wood for those heavy overdriven metal sound and those light and mellow blues licks, and a black acoustic guitar for unplugged sessions. No, I don’t have a band and I don’t play on stage. This is just my way of flying away from the dimension of the nerds and geeks once in a while so I would not get sucked into the vortex of uncoolism.

Lastly, going back to Geek-O-Ville, I also have a collection of Gundam model kits, Transformers Bumblebee transformable action figures, FHM Philippines magazines (from June 2002 up until the present issue), and a couple of autographed CDs from artists such as Maroon 5, Lifehouse, Boys Like Girls, and the like. So, I think I’ll stop right here before I really embarrass myself. Rock on!!!

Hi! You got a nice page around here. I wonder, do you translate Chinese user manuals to English? (That’s if you know how to write in Mandarin) Or do they translate your works?

    • Dan Tumbaga says:

Currently, the company I work for only caters to US customers so there is no need to translate. However, from the previous two companies I worked for, we had translator who help us with document localization. We localized documents to German, Portuguese, and Traditional Chinese.
